Welcome to Buccaneer's Space.
Our lovely boy is 10 years old this year (2004). He has been with us since 1996. In spite not having had much human contact for the first two years of his life, our boy has the nicest nature. He is soft like a newly born lamb, and his fur is of a pure cream colour. His kittens inherit his wonderful temperament and his very loud purr! He is a big and heavy cat with all the attributes of his Persian breed - Cobby body, heavy of bone, a round head topped off by little ears. Big and deep coloured amber eyes, a short tail, deep and powerful chest and a sweet expression on his smily face. Buccaneer is a sturdy boy and creates lovely deeply furred kittens. We have a giggle to ourselves as he is an old-fashioned boy who will woo his queens and 'serenade' them with his deep baritone voice (caterwauling) for all of the neighbourhood to hear! He never rushes a queen but allows her to feel at home in his quarters and has the good manners never to grab and force a lady cat to give in to his will. Our other boy, who is younger is not so gentlemanly. But that's another story altogether!

Our lovely Jellybean Rose, who is a sealpoint and who for her first mating went to our Creampoint boy's Stud House, which is visible from Buccaneer's Stud Quarters, was so attracted to Buccaner next door that she used to wait by the mesh door for him to appear so that she could tell him that she loved him. We wanted colourpoints, darn it! But she persevered and in the end, as nothing happened with Sweetie and her, we gave in and took her in-house until her next call. When that happened, we let her go to visit Buccaner for her first 'service' - This only took a second to happen the first time and subsequent couplings produced 3 lovely kittens, one of them who is our Berengaria, a Tortoiseshell.

Here is Hekla Berengaria (Beri for short), looking out at the world.

Buccaneer was not always so healthy and handsome. When her first came to us, he was very unkempt - with flea eczema, a rather bedraggled coat and deep lines on his face caused by infected tear stains.
He wasn't unhealthy, he was just a bit neglected from lack of grooming and care. He came all of the way from up North and he travelled via truck carriers. First from Kaitaia to Whangarei, then from Whangarei to Helensville and finally from there to Auckland. He stayed at our vet's overnight for a precautionary check up and came home next day, as there was no real health problems; only general neglect and lack of grooming. He had some bleeding from the furrows on his face caused by irritation from unwashed tear stains. He was also a bit thin.

Here is our boy shortly after he came to live with us. Not a pretty picture but we saw the real quality of this boy beneath the surface and we knew he would be a real handsome lad once we took him in hand.

We quickly began on a major TLC program - first his coat was trimmed and a bath was the next step. He then was treated with flea control medication - Advantage (manufactured by Bayer), so that he would be more comfortable and his flea eczema would clear up. Next on the agenda was to feed him good and nutritious food and a few extra (natural) vitamins and minerals.
There is one thing we noticed straight away. This was that this delighful boy would purr and purr and never be angry at us even though we had to do all of this grooming, bathing, cleaning and generally do things to him that most cats just DON'T like! It seemed to us that even though he was not bred by us, that he knew that we were his friends and had his best interests at heart. His nature was superb! It was only later on in our breeding life that we found out why. But to us at the time, he was so different from the picture that we had in our minds about STUDS - aggressive, dominant and hard to approach by humans. But no, our lad was a true friend from the start.

Time passed and our boy improved both in looks, coat, weight and general well-being. He fathered his first babies and they were perfect little Persians. To our liking anyway, as we prefer our open-faced traditional (English Style) Persians. There were three - Cassandra - a Red Girl, Annabelle- a Tortoiseshell and Aloyisius a Black boy:

Cassandra and Aloyisius were sold as pets (and are still lovely and healthy adult cats), and Annabelle lives with us and is a breeding queen

This was only the beginning, as our boy continues to produce lovely and loving kittens of the Classic Persian type: Stocky of body, heavy of bone, small ears with round large eyes of beautiful colours. Short nosed with a sweet expression and very pure colours - no barring streaking of colour - just a pure cream, a bright blue, deep red, jet black and tri-coloured brilliant torties.

Then we thought one day: Hey, wait a minute. When we go to cat shows, we never see any pure cream cats there. Why not show our pride and joy and see what happens?
So we bathed and combed and combed and combed our Buccaneer, and entered him in a local cat show.
The big day came and he got his Championship (three Challenges = Championship Status), and the judges loved him!

Here is a Judge at his first (and only Cat Show) admiring his good looks.

After he became a Champion at the Show, we didn't show him anymore as we knew that he really wasn't happy at cat shows, he was happiest with us and his girls! (of course.)

At present, our Valeron boy is getting used to our new home, as he was being (very well) looked after at my Vet's.

Here he is being cuddled by one of the vet nurses!

We had to wait two weeks for our new house. Our boys needed to be in a place where they were safe and well looked after until we were able to move into our new home. So Mary's - The Cat Practice was the best place for him to be.

My husband Asgeir collected him and our other Stud boy, Ch Wintoki Sweet Talking Man at Mary the Vet's Place, and now he is settling in to our new home (as we all are).

We look forward to more of his new babies later in the year.
That's Champion Valeron Buccaneer - our Solid Coloured Cream Boy!
We love him!
